2025-05-13 00:15:15 +0000 UTCThank you, Robert! I agree. I wanted to portray the beginning of Taylor's experience as incredibly fraught. He's been pushed into this situation by a confluence of his physical reality, social pressures, and his mother's desperate solution. And, yeah, I don't see him as having arrived at any kind of internal "she" at all; he's performing a role, and a very uncomfortable one at that - at least for now. I think Mom's actions come from a place of fierce, almost frantic love and a desire to see Taylor achieve his potential despite the incredible unfairness of his situation. She's seen him suffer, seen him hide, and in her mind, this drastic plan is a way to bulldoze through the obstacles. I tried to write her as someone who is perhaps a bit blinded by the end goal (the scholarship, MIT, a better life for Taylor) and maybe doesn't fully grasp the toll this will take on him. She's a problem-solver! ๐

2025-05-13 00:14:43 +0000 UTCI donโt think that Taylor is a she yet. Thereโs too much guilt and confusion going on for that to have fully formed in his mind yet. Give it time. His motherโs assumptions in that respect are naive and a bit annoying. She needs to be more realistic about the problems that her son/daughter is facing.
