Earthquake Log

Hey guys, I hope you're all doing well as of late. Originally, I meant to have this post up as soon as the power was back up and running. Things have been rather hectic over here and I haven't really been able to have some time alone with my thoughts to get it all sorted out. There was also a post that I had started writing up last week, but decided to scrap it. I'll try to sum it all up (so far) as much as I can.

Week 1

During the first few days of the week we were left without electricity. It was briefly restored for a moment and another strong quake shot down the entire system. We eventually had to use a portable power generator to charge our mobile devices. Phone connection was rather spotty at times, but it was good enough that we could read posts and sometimes watch a couple of videos (420p or lower).

Our home (nor our grandpa's; it's a 2 story house) didn't suffer any damages, though we still went downstairs whenever the shaking got pretty rough throughout the day. We were barely in our house during most of this week, only going in to take a quick shower or grabbing something to eat. Sleeping in the car was pretty uncomfortable. Most of our time was spent outside near the car or going out with our family to buy food; just like hurricane Maria a couple of years ago, we had to throw out everything we had in the fridge.

My brother, due to being unsettled by the whole thing, has been staying in my room ever since. He refuses to stay or sleep in his own room, since it's at the back end of the house. Whenever there's a slight shake, he makes a run for the front door. Other than that, some people from farther towns have been driving around the neighborhood to hand out food and supplies.

Weeks 2-3

The earthquakes eventually began to die down near the end of the 2nd week, though the replicas themselves were just as rough and annoying to go through. By the 3rd week, things were stable enough for my brother and I to use our laptops, though I still lacked any sort of privacy whatsoever. Whenever I had a slight itch to draw, I'd attempt to sketch it out on my phone since week 1; my family was still nosy about the whole thing.

Only one house (as far as I know) was trashed because of the earthquakes and has to be completely demolished at some point. The main town itself (which is like a 15min or so car drive away) suffered most of the damage, yet the post office was still standing. My brother's drawing tablet broke down and he wanted me to buy him a new one. (I'm still waiting for him to pay me back…) I had to let him borrow money during this time.

Overall, we spent our days more or less the same as we did during the first week. At least the power was back and we could use the fridge and wash the laundry quickly again.

Week 4 (So far)

Things are feeling somewhat normal by now, but there's still the occasional earthquake every now and then. My brother still hasn't gone back to his room, so I haven't really been able to draw much or sleep well at all; it's mostly been headaches and back pain for me. I've been feeling pretty exhausted and uneasy lately.

The power's been going out, sometimes for a couple of minutes or hours. Maybe they're still doing maintenance or something. I'll see if I can get back to drawing in the next few days. WIPs for them will be available as soon as the linear and flats are ready.
