My thoughts before watching the reaction, during my second listen-through: Good Thing is a very fitting title track for this release, I already like it so much more. Girlfriend is still only ok for me, but I'm not skipping it. The next three songs are CHEF'S KISS. Once again Minnie and Yuqi hit it out of the park for me, and now Miyeon debuts as a composer with Unstoppable and it's.. absurdly good? It sounds like it's from a parallel universe where Red Velvet is actually made up of this world's I-dle members. Drawing comparisons to Red Velvet is the best compliment I can come up with. I'm finding no faults with these three songs, so well produced and groovy. The last one, the piano ballad, gives me Chinese OST. Maybe because Shuhua seems to have more lines (?) and she wrote the lyrics. It rounds out the EP well, but it's not mind-blowing. I'd be interested in a version with Chinese lyrics. It's been around a year since I listened to I-dle's discography regularly, this EP makes me want to do that again. Yay! My thoughts after watching the reaction: Girlfriend would be fun at a concert, it's simple and fun. Totally agree, Yuqi and Minnie each have a recognizable signature sound and I really enjoy both. Chain is LSF Ash's moody second cousin. I really haven't listened to their recent solo stuff enough. So I'm not a musician, but: The "break in the beat" in Unstoppable I would call a delayed drum fill that is in place of the snare hit on the last note of the bar and the bass drum hit on the first note of the next bar (in the usual drum pattern). Miyeon starts her next line "You, irreplaceable" delayed such that "You" is in between snare drum hits. There could also be time signature shenanigans going on, but I don't think so. I'm imagining Miyeon pointing at someone on the first note, which the snare triplet ends on, then singing "You" between first and second note, then the rhythm goes back to normal and the bar ends on the last syllable of "irreplaceable". It's whacky, but it starts to make sense if you count along on the drum hits. Isn't this I-dle momentum the perfect opportunity to finally catch up on those Minnie Leemujin episodes? :> I know you want to. The only variety I've seen of theirs are a few episodes of "Up To (G)I-DLE". Shuhua is one of the most effortlessly funny idols.

2025-05-19 22:37:44 +0000 UTCReally good point that Chain would feel at home on I Burn - it's a great song, and I've also being dying for them to return to that more mature/dark sound. Overall I'm not a big fan of the singles for this album (Good Thing is just fine, and I still can't get behind Girlfriend), but man there's some great b-sides here. Love Tease is a banger, and Unstoppable is my personal favourite on the album. Makes me very eager for more Miyeon songs in the future
