Quick question about collections, user experience stuff on Patreon

I'm the same: Digital archives need to be neat and consistent, no matter how tedious it is. Bonus points for "improving" the requirements for a clean archive, so you have to re-sort it like every year. More bonus points if nobody else even notices the changes. It might be possible to automate finding posts with broken videos and archiving videos you are missing from your local backup. "yt-dlp" is the best tool to download videos without quality loss and it supports virtually any site, but it's a command-line program with tons of features. There are some other Patreon-specific command-line tools and apparently Patreon has a programming API. I can look into automation possibilities, if you like. I'm fairly new to Patreon so I don't have deep insight into how people use tags, collections, filters and the search. It seems that you can't select multiple tags at once, so I think the only difference between tags and collections is the display layout and whether locked posts are shown by default. My main use case for filtering posts would be to watch a specific show, say Leemujin, or all content for a specific group, say LSF, in chronological order. With a collection, I click on it and I can see everything, including posts outside of my tier, but I'd have to change the filter to "Oldest to newest" and then open them one by one in new tabs. I noticed I cannot filter out videos I've already watched on a collection page. With a tag, I need to find it in the tag list, click on it, set the filters "Oldest to newest" and "All posts" and then I can just watch and scroll. The filter to not show already watched content is available here. Both have their pros and cons. For Leemujin, where I'd watch only select episodes, possibly in random order and not many in one session, I feel the collection is more helpful. But for binge watching a group, I might prefer the infinite scroll view of tags and search results. By the way: To binge a group, I would need to jump back and forth between YT and Patreon right?

2025-04-09 15:33:45 +0000 UTCYeah it's very dependent on the group. For example, ATEEZ and TWICE would get album collections because I've done a lot for each. A group I have 1-5 videos for would have all their variety, live stages, and albums put into a single collection.

2025-04-09 07:04:42 +0000 UTCI think it is definitely better to add collections for each artist. That isn't so important if you can easily find the artist in the tags. But if there are hundreds of tags, because they are ordered by the number of videos rather than alphabetically, it can be hard to find what you are looking for. I'm not sure what the value is of having a collection with just one video in it. You may as well just leave it in the artist collection. Too many collections makes it a bit tiresome to scroll through. Not sure what the value is of the albums collection if you have hundreds of videos in it. If I am looking for a reaction to a particular album I would never find it that way. Better to just leave it under the artist. Of course, if you have many videos for an artist, then subdividing that into different collections for variety/albums etc can be very helpful.
