I think it's fun as somewhat of a critic (I guess that's what reactors are sometimes) to go a little harder on stuff you don't like. Unfortunately most K-Pop fans can't take that, even if I'm being hyperbolic to be funny. I'm at more willing to do it here too because they are a group that has been hitting everything right for me. So the misstep was a little disappointing. I actually haven't gone back to those two songs yet, maybe I'll feel differently

2025-04-06 06:31:38 +0000 UTCSo I listened to it all again, in order. I'm back to not minding Slingshot and Golden Recipe at all. They are weird, have strange harmonies, strange resolution of those harmonies, some questionable samples, but at proper volume, you can decipher the chaos. The mix is still as good as the rest of the album, which I didn't expect. It's not muddy, just dissonance that gets resolved. What really helps also is that they are preceded by two amazing songs. I can imagine starting an album with Slingshot would be jarring. And Golden Recipe isn't melodically or vocally satisfying enough to lift up that soured mood again. I'm very susceptible to reactions in a way that they can change my perception of songs to the better or worse. That's why I normally avoid any negativity. For some reason I took it well here though. Trusting in the taste and reasoning ability of the reactor goes a long way. It really gets to me when reactors go "meh, not my vibe, next" on certified masterpieces, after they skipped around in the song 3000 times, on their first listen, pretending (and failing) to analyze it. I swear some of these people don't even like music. Anyway, I better stop ranting 😂

I could try to see if those grow on me, but I honestly think there's no shot. I'm happy that I can state my honest feelings in this reaction -- having a little fun with it and railing on the song more than I normally do. Nobody got upset or offended even if it's to their taste. We need more of that 😅

2025-03-19 01:54:10 +0000 UTCI had my first listen of this EP about an hour before watching this. I enjoyed it a lot, so at first I was surprised to read your video description. Somehow I tolerated the muddy mess in Slingshot and focused on the small parts that had some sense of melody and/or were in the highlight medleys. With Golden Recipe, the Dem Jointz tag automatically made me go into "this will probably have to grow on me, let's be open-minded"-mode. However, I was even more surprised that on this second listen here, I immediately agreed with you, those two songs are somewhat painful. Maybe it all sounds a bit better in FLAC than with Youtube compression, but I don't see how that could save these two songs. I will have to listen to this EP a few more times to understand what the producers were thinking. Normally, when I like a group already, songs that are just "meh" to me eventually grow on me, because they are at least catchy most of the time. I'm not feeling that here right now.

2025-03-18 08:15:53 +0000 UTCMy ranking 1. Ocean 11/10 I teared up on this one made me feel something lol. 2. Papillon is 9/10 elite that beats just crushes it with that vocal delivery chefs kiss. 3. Know about me 8.5/10 best TT imo because of simplicity of it no change up and smooth like butter. 4. High Horse 8/10 the vocals are god tier but I got tired of the instrumental cutting in and out 😭 I know its for impact/important for structure of said song and to add uniqueness to the track. 5. Golden recipe is not bad or good to me just serviceable 6/10 I like the sing talkness to it. Its kind of a palate cleanser in a sense getting you ready for greatest to come. 6. Slingshot 4/10 doesn't work for me either it just a bunch of shit thrown together served up on a plate for you to eat (like your favorite type of pizza with maggots on it). It has good parts like the hook is koo but not much else.
