Run BTS! EP41

First bit of BTS variety I've ever watched! It was alright -- I'm expecting that as this show when on they did more interesting stuff. I'm assuming BTS never did anything like a travel show, right?

BTS are known for their human touch. They're sincere, they're genuinely good people, they have great chemistry...they are a joy to watch. I've seen so many multis finally really dig into BTS (whom they avoided out of some weird aversion to popular things) and *get it.* Maybe consider the fact that there's a reason tens of millions of people around the world have brought BTS deeply into their lives. Because they're the real deal and worthy of all the love and adoration they get.

I really think you'd like some of their other content, maybe something like Jin on Youngji's No Prepare. Or some of episodes of Suchwita, like the Jin episode or the first Jungkook episode! (The Jungkook episode was so funny they had an extra 15 minute clip after the episode because he wouldn't stop singing even after suga left it's definitely worth a watch LOL)

I don't really watch alot of variety stuff, but I love more chill variety content. They have 'BTS in the soop'. A show where they went on something like a vacation home and you just see what they do, cook or play games or paint. Just then on a day off doing whatever kinda, it's a pretty relaxing and healing show!

well there definitely is fave group bias but I also think that for a LOT of fans, BTS was the first and sometimes only kpop group they follow and ARMY are a particularly loud and vocal group to begin with and BTS definitely were at the right intersection of YT/high speed internet/internationalization of fandom/etc. so access was MUCH easier compared to seeing your favorite 1st or 2nd gen idols if they HAPPEN to be lucky enough to be cast on a televised show Unfortunately, the in-house variety model became the norm and at the end of the day, there's sort of a ceiling given the whole point is to produce just a massive amount of content for cheap. It's not like they have, for example, the camera crew that Game Caterers has or the editing that a channel like 1theK will do or just the professional polish/sheen that televised network K content has. Good for the fan but the quality definitely is widespread across the board

Bon Voyage is travel with typical challenges/missions/etc. they're babies in season 1. In the Soop is cozy vibes, just all of them let loose in a massive house with every amenity possible and see what they get up to, no missions or anything like that (which i prefer)

yeah I reckon people really hone in on the fact that run bts was at the forefront of in-house variety rather than external? so it's less they're the pinnacle of variety content? but maybe i'm giving everyone too much credit, we all think our fave groups are more entertaining than they really are i suppose lmaooo

Jae

BTS pioneered the idol travel show with Bon Voyage, of which there are four seasons. They also have two seasons of In The Soop which is a COVID-era Staycation series that several groups have now gone on to do as well. A few of the members have solo or group travel series, too. Tae did an In the Soop with some of his famous actor friends, Jungkook, Jimin, and Tae did "Are You Sure" where they traveled all over the USA, and j-hope did "Hope On The Street" where he traveled to cities all over the world to dance with some of the best dancers on the planet. And Run BTS has about 150 episodes. And Jin has his own version of Run BTS called Run Jin. So they are the kings of self-produced variety content. And they started Run BTS in 2015 (partnering with the brand new V-Live) so the budget was small at first but they've done incredible things through the show. And regardless, their personalities mean we enjoy watching them do literally anything. They are the entertainment.

I might get murdered for saying this but BTS is a fine variety kpop group....not great, not horrible but most ARMY make out their Run BTS series as some sort of holy grail of Idol entertainment when MANY other idol groups are/were just as entertaining.
