QUEST3: Doom3Quest (Live in the Shadows)

The team have all received their Quest 3's and we've been manically testing how good the performance in all ports. Generally, across the board this comes with a healthy resolution bump (as 1.0 sampling is a percentage of the eye buffer provided by the API). Even with the resolution bump, performance has also improved.

We're taking this on a game by game basis. First up, is the fan favourite: Doom 3. Due to some fixes to multi-view (in collaboration with Lubos) and some optimisation techniques we've found, this is now running at the following settings on BOTH Quest 2 and Quest 3 with full real-time stencil shadows:

Quest 3 (Shadows ON): 72hz, SS1.1 (1848x1848) MSAA 1 [Shadows Defaulted ON]
(Very few notable frame drops other than the very first section with the hovering spacecraft)

Quest 2 (Shadows ON): 60hz SS 1.0 [Shadows Defaulted OFF]
(some frame drops but certainly playable).
Be aware for Quest 2, you'll need to enable this from the VR Options-> Performance Settings. Its recommended to do this before launching into a level.

On both systems if you already have Doom3Quest installed we'd recommend deleting Doom3Quest/config/base/doom3quest.cfg to ensure you have our optimisations.

This means that shining your flashlight in a monsters face creates a huge shadow on the wall behind him for you to appreciate in the 3 seconds before he eats you. This adds a huge amount to the ambience and daunting atmosphere of the game.

We'll be launching this publicly tomorrow, but wanted to give our loyal patrons, who make all of this work possible, a sneak preview whilst we prepare the associated promotional material.

We've tested pretty much everything and all pretty much run exactly the same as Quest 2 (I.e. without issues). We need more specific information to be able to suggest what is going wrong your end, but I suspect you are having issues that other people are not.

Unfortunately all Team Beef ports have so many issues on the Quest 3. Many don't work at all on first run. But they all require me to restart my headset at some time.

Hi, i think that is the EAX emulation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_Audio_Extensions Example on PC EAX OFF: https://youtu.be/WyjvqmSDxnY?t=95 EAX ON: https://youtu.be/WyjvqmSDxnY?t=206 The emulation we use sounds pretty much the same as on PC. If you don't like it you can turn it off in options. -Bummser

I recently pickup the Quest 3, and installed the game. I cannot deny the dynamic shadows act as advertised: enhancing the overall ambience and atmosphere of the game. I only played up to the point where my character gets to the Command Center, but the one thing I've noticed is the audio has a consistant echo effect to it; everybody around my character has a slightly muted, echoey effect when talking. I cannot say if this is a new issue, or it's something that's always been around but I have forgotten about. I could not locate any audio options to screw around with. There's no denying the impact of dynamic shadows here, the VR world behaves more the PC/Console world, and provides an additional layer of visual immersion.
