Part Timer chan Super Coffe Business Plan RC2 update + some itch.io news

I decided to just go ahead and extend the final "caught" animation. If I sit on it too long, I think I would have just let it go. I really wanted the final "caught" animation to be a little more interesting, after all, it is the pay off for playing the game.

That is pretty much the game as it. It will be released to the public around the last week of May.

The remainder of this post is just my outlook on itch.io's recent actions on NSFW devs. This doesn't matter to you directly, unless you are also a NSFW dev on itch.io.

Now about itch.io

I lurk in the itch.io discord, and around yesterday, I log on to 130+ unread message on the meta channel. It is a channel for talking about itch.io over all, not Facebook's VR thing.

Long story short, some NSFW devs are being told to handle their own payment. That is not really tenable for small time dev, figuring out the sales tax for different region will probably kill you by effort alone.

Here are leafo's own words on the subject.

The exact risk factor is vague, besides it is payment processor related. It is almost always payment processors. However, they are not giving all NSFW devs the notice, I certainly didn't get the email, at least not yet.

This means there are certain things that makes an account more of a risk compare to others, itch.io is currently unwilling to share what and how those things effect risk. This is understandable, as stating things in certainty causes liability. It is frustrating in politics as it is here.

One of the devs complaining are making 40k a month on Patreon. I don't know how much of that translates into sales on itch.io, but these are devs with serious following, not nobodies like me. So potentially visibility is a factor.

Revenue share is suggested by devs to be a factor. This make sense, the more money you make itch.io, the more they are willing to fight for you. leafo denies that revenue share percentage is a factor but also said that it is considered in aggregate. I don't know about you, but that sounds like revenue share percentage is a factor to me. It is just not a guarantee way to protect an account from being cut off.

I make itch.io basically no money (my revenue share is the default 10%) and is not very visible, so I don't know where that sits me on itch.io's shit list. Potentially, I may permanently lose the ability to collect money from itch.io, unless I want to grapple with payment processors and sale tax myself.

I am not in a position to do anything about any of this, besides worrying. If I had a full length and completed game, maybe I could have tried my luck on Steam. Of course, that in itself, is another different kind of dice roll all together.

A full length game has been the goal since before the itch.io news, but now I'm kicking myself for not putting more effort into it earlier.

...

Well, thanks for reading, and thanks for supporting me so far. I hope I will have better news next month.
