Progress is... not great.

I made and then discarded a prototype all within the span of a few weeks. I still like the basic concept of it, but the execution is not just fun.

Here is a gif of the prototype in action and it should be clear on why it is not fun.

You are a secretary of sorts, you run around the office to greet customers and help out employees, and slowly over time people get lewder.

The idea is to establish a routine, and then break it by introducing lewd things. I tried to do this with "Convenient Woman" (especially the train level) but the level select basically killed any effect of establishing a routine.

This prototype has an opposite problem. It was way too easy to autopilot and ignore everything.

I'm struggling to come up with a balance that allows players to get comfortable into a pattern and still alert enough to notice changes.

Well, back to the drawing board.

Marina Shiraishi

I based the secretary design on Marina Shiraishi from Yakuza 0 which is based on the real JAV actress Marina Shiraishi. On hindsight it was not particularity wise to do that, but it didn't look that much like her anyways.

You can see my original plan in motion. She gets more skimpy as she gets lewded, eventually her body changes due to the amount of baby she births. 

I been wanting to do something like this for a while now, but it never seems to work out.

After getting frustrated with the prototype, I decided to draw somebody else's character.

I never played the game, but I did like her design.

The rough draft

In some fashion, I always liked my rough drafts better than my finished art. Something gets lost between the rough draft and the line art, I hadn't been able to reduce that.

Just for testing, I put the shadow from the finish art, onto the rough draft.

I kind of like it, maybe I should explore making my rough better instead of lining it afterwards.


I reused her design for a short 5 pager.

I don't know what to name this short, but I'll figure it out when I release it to the public in March.

Next

I'm pausing the billing cycle for a month, to give me more time to think about game design without feeling too guilty.

Plus, big game releases are coming up. I can't play most of them because my computer is old, but it won't stop me from consuming content relating to those games. Productivity forecast is not high.

By the way, is there a god of productivity one can sacrifice a bowl of cereal to? Asking for a friend.
