I just want to quietly draw manga Chapter 110
Added 2025-05-09 16:58:23 +0000 UTC[TL:-Hey, I was originally planning to cut the whole Haruki and Ryuko interaction, but after thinking it over, I decided to keep it. I just fixed the earlier part where Haruki was in a cabâheâs not taking one anymore. Should be all good now!]
âNot interested,â Haruki said flatly, cutting off Ryukoâs invitation.
âMizushiro-sensei, arenât you hungry?â
âI had some takeout during the auditions. I'm good,â he replied, glancing her way. âYou probably havenât eaten yetâgo grab something.â
Ryuko blinked at his guarded tone.
She couldnât help but feel a little hurt.
Am I really that off-putting?
Why did he sound like he was constantly on edge around her?
Just then, a raindrop splashed against the pavement.
Then another. The sky quickly opened up, rain pouring down in streaks that turned the road slick.
Youâve got to be kidding meâŠ
Haruki glanced at the street. There were plenty of taxis around in this busy area, but all of them were taken. Heâd already seen over a dozen go by, none available.
âMizushiro-sensei, letâs get out of the rain,â Ryuko said, looking up at the sky. âItâs coming down pretty hard.â
She seemed a little pleased by the sudden weather, as if it gave her an excuse to stay longer.
âTake cover?â Haruki looked at her, skeptical. âWhere?â
âThereâs a cafĂ© just around the corner. Weâll be there in two minutes.â
Without waiting for a response, Ryuko grabbed his sleeve and tugged him forward.
âHey, I didnât agree to go anywhere with youââ Haruki started, but she didnât seem to care, dragging him along before he could finish his sentence.
âŠ
Two minutes later, they dashed into a nearby coffee shop, just as the rain really started to pour.
âWelcome in! Can I take your order?â a staff member greeted them with a polite bow.
âMocha, please,â Ryuko said, brushing her damp hair back into place.
âSame,â Haruki muttered, still watching the rain as it pounded against the windows. âLooks like weâre stuck here until it lets up.â
The cafĂ© was cozy and quiet. There werenât many people, and soft music played overheadâsomething familiar, though Haruki couldnât place the name.
Soon, their drinks arrived.
âAlright,â Haruki sighed, turning toward her. âLetâs get to it. What did you want to talk about?â
âIâll say this up frontâI care a lot about fairness. If you came here hoping to convince me to go easy on you in the second round next week, then forget it.â
âIf thatâs what this is, we can just pretend we came here to escape the weather and go our separate ways when the rain stops.â
Ryuko blinked at him, clearly confused. Then her eyes widened in disbelief.
âMizushiro-sensei, I think youâve misunderstood.â
âThe reason I was waiting for you outside Kazanami Studio tonight⊠it wasnât about that.â
âI just wanted to thank you.â
Haruki raised an eyebrow. âDidnât I already say it? You passed the first round because of your own performance. Producer Mori saw something in you that fit Meiko Honmaâs character. It had nothing to do with me.â
ââŠI know.â
She looked down for a moment, then nodded.
âI understand you donât want to admit it, and I wonât force you to. But after the audition, everyoneâincluding Producer Moriâseemed disappointed⊠except you.â
âIf I made it to the second round, I know your opinion mustâve mattered.â
âWhatever the case, I just wanted to say thank you, Mizushiro-sensei.â
Haruki let out a slow breath, deciding not to argue.
He didnât see it as helping herâjust doing his job, recognizing when a voice truly fit a role. Still, there was no point trying to explain that now.
ââŠFine. Letâs just wait for the rain to stop.â
âWell, since youâve already said thank you, can we leave it at that?â
ââŠNot quite.â
Ryuko hesitated for a second, then added, âMizushiro-sensei⊠thereâs something else I wanted to ask you.â
Of course. Haruki glanced toward the window.
The rain hadnât let up. If it werenât coming down this hard, he mightâve just walked out.
ââŠAlright. What is it?â he asked, resigned.
Ryuko looked straight at him. âWhy did you help me?â
Huh?
Heâd half expected a request for favors or some angle, not⊠that.
âOh, come on,â he exhaled. âIf you really think I was âhelpingâ you, thatâs up to you. I just thought your voice matched the Meiko Honma I had in mind, so I told Producer Mori. Thatâs all.â
âWhether you made it to the next round or not was entirely his call.â
âMy voiceâŠâ Ryuko whispered, her expression shifting.
Then her eyes lit up.
So that was it. Thatâs why sheâd made it past the first round.
Ever since seeing the results, sheâd been confusedâher audition had felt clumsy, even botched. Everyone, even the producer, had seemed disappointed⊠except Mizushiro.
If he, the original scriptwriter, thought her voice embodied Meiko, then that was her advantage in the next round.
All the effort sheâd put into approaching him tonight hadnât been in vain.
âIn that case⊠Mizushiro-sensei,â she began carefully, âsince the rainâs still not letting up, and weâre both stuck hereâŠâ
Haruki narrowed his eyes. âWhat now?â
ââŠWould you mind giving me a little guidance?â she asked, somewhat sheepishly. âThereâs something Iâm still unsure about regarding Meikoâs lines.â
There it was.
His internal defenses immediately went up again.
âIâm not really qualified to be giving guidance,â Haruki said. âIâm not a voice coach or anything.â
True, Ryukoâs audition had been shaky, but she was still a trained voice actress. Even if nerves got the better of her that day, Haruki didnât think he was in any position to be correcting her technique.
After all, he wasnât a professional in that fieldâjust a writer who happened to have a clear image in mind.
âI know, I know,â Ryuko said quickly, picking up on his reluctance. âI donât mean for you to âcoachâ me or anything.â
âI just⊠I want to get a clearer idea of the tone youâre imagining for Meiko.â
Before he could reply, she adjusted her posture slightly and looked directly at him.
Then she began to speak againâbut this time, her tone changed.
âMizushiro-sensei,â she said, her voice low, reserved, and distantâlike someone burdened with quiet sorrow.
âOr⊠would it be more like this?â she tried again, this time softer, almost vulnerable.
âOr maybe a little brighter, a bit more innocent?â Her voice shifted yet again.
Then again, more cheerful. Then more withdrawn. Then airy. Then teasing. In rapid succession, she explored a dozen variationsâeach one distinct.
Happy, cold, melancholic, curious, playful⊠every line painted a different version of Meiko.
So this is what a real seiyuu (voice actor) can do.
