Godslayer Lysette: Chapter 250

Chapter 250: Aurella’s Mission

Aurella leapt up off the ground and a good fifty feet in the air, floating down at a casual pace as though she’d somehow her weight to that of a feather and was content to glide with the winds until they brought her back to the surface.  She stretched along the ground, fully allowing the grass and dirt to ruffle her hair and dirty her clothes, moaning in such a way that belied her true age and experience with activities of a more adult nature.  Finally, after a solid minute of quite literally rolling in the dirt, she jumped up again, snapped her fingers, and became engulfed in a puff of pink smoke.

The form Aurella had taken once she emerged from the smoke was undeniably still her, though a few years older.  An adult in terms of her body for certain— she was as tall as Mirae and had all of the typical developments expected of an adult woman.  Lysette looked down at her own chest with a bit of envy.  But certainly in poise and demeanor and attire, Aurella was exuding an air that screamed that she’d rather be playing or lazing around or doing literally anything that didn’t involve responsibility for others or herself.

“Ugh!” Aurella groaned.  “I forgot how much I hated this form for another reason.  It’s either deal with these…grapefruits on my chest constantly doing whatever the fart they want to.  Or I have to wear the world’s least comfortable piece of clothing if I’m going to move around with any degree of comfort!  So not fun either way!”

Mirae sighed.  “So why not get rid of them if they cause you distress?  I mean, it’s what I did.”

“I mean, I did!  Didn’t you see me earlier?  But I can’t, like, fully get rid of them either.  Bedroom Whimsy is a fun time too, you know!  I mean, you two introduced yourselves as a couple, so I think you understand.”

“Oh, I most certainly do understand all the enjoyment that the two of us have behind closed doors,” Mirae said, suggestiveness pervading their voice as they wrapped their arms around Lysette from behind.

“Exactly.  And sometimes it’s fun to play with them or have them played with.  But not all the time.  And they’re still a huge hassle, so I just prefer to look like I did before.  But I guess it’d be kinda weird to talk with you two about god stuff looking like I did.  And I wanted you two to see what I actually look like, so yeah, here I am in my normal form.”  Aurella shuddered.  “Ugh, even just saying the word normal feels so wrong!”

Lysette stood motionless.  Mirae wrapped their arms a bit tighter around her.

“Anyway, I guess I should start by telling you that my mother is Luminia.”

“Luminia?” Lysette asked.  “As in, the primordial Goddess of Light?”

“Yep, the very same one!  And my dad is her High Priest.”

Lysette nodded.  “That sounds like it could be really complicated.”

“Ugh, it’s the absolute worst.  Like, by the time I was three years old, I was already being inducted into my mother’s religion and having to spend hours studying all her doctrines and principles and how her religion was organized and who all the leaders were and…  Yuck.  It’s like ten pounds of bleh in a five-pound sack!”

“Sounds like you were more than a bit resentful of your parents,” Mirae said.

“Maybe a little.  I mean, I still love them and all, but they’re always on and on about duties and responsibilities and since pretty much as soon as I was born.”

“As soon as you were born?”

“Yeah, as soon as I can remember, anyway, which is like a few days after I was born.  Probably before that.”

“Wait–” Lysette interjected.

“Oh, I guess it’s different since you two were born mortal?  But yeah, if a full god and a mortal give birth, the child is born as an awakened demigod from birth.  The same is true if two awakened demigods have a child as well.  If it’s a demigod and a human, then it doesn’t matter if the demigod is awakened or not— the child carries a dormant divinity but has to awaken it or have it awakened somehow.”

“That tracks with what we know about inheriting divinity,” Lysette said.  “It does mean we’ll have to be ready when the two of us are ready to have a child.”

“Ooh!  You’ll have to let me come over!  Kids are so much fun to play with!”

“You’re going to have to wait a good while before then,” Mirae said.  “As much as I want to get started on that, Lyse wants to wait until after the war is over.  And at least in this regard, I agree with her judgement.”  They and Lysette sat down next to the still-adult-shaped Aurella.

“Well, that much aside, I guess I should get back to my story.  So Luminia and my dad raised me for most of my childhood, but it wasn’t exactly like… I dunno.  Like, I see the kids running around and playing and having fun and asking to go flying and stuff.  I mean, yes, I learned how to fly when I was five, but it wasn’t like I had much time to just… not have responsibilities.  I barely got any time to myself at all.  And it’s even worse when you’re a demigoddess and don’t need sleep and therefore, your parents agree that you have that many more hours be tutored in more history and Cultivation and…  Like I said, fifteen pounds of bleh in a five-pound sack!”

“You said ten before,” Mirae said.

“Can you blame me!”

Lysette and Mirae both said nothing.

“So, anyway, childhood sucked.  When I turned eighteen, which was about a hundred years ago, Luminia decided it was time to say good-bye and that was the last time I ever saw her.  I still talk to her from time to time, but it’s always a pain in the bum to have to travel all the way to one of her shrines.  And sometimes I do all that and she’s busy doing one thing or another and she’s like ‘sorry, Aura, but I don’t have time to talk right now’.  Like, I get that she’s the big hotshot goddess and all those responsibilities, but like, just because I’m her daughter doesn’t mean I wanted any part in all her fights and challenges.  I just wanted to live my life!”

“And that’s when you awakened your Domain?” Lysette asked.

“Oh, no, that happened when I was thirteen.  I suspect it couldn’t happen before turning thirteen, because pretty much happened thirteen years to the minute after I was born.  And I gotta say that it was the absolute best day of my life, because from that moment on, I actually got to play and shirk and actually be a kid instead of just a demigoddess in training!  And my father even allowed it!”

“I’m guessing it wasn’t quite as nice as you make it out to be?” Lysette said.

“Well, of course not!  I had to have, and I can’t say this with a straight face, ‘structured play activities’ throughout the day.”  Aurella hurled, though the product of her doing so vanished on contact.

“Oh, sorry about that.  Force of habit.  Demigoddess of Whimsy, mom’s the Goddess of Light, so visual illusions and gags are like… one of my go-tos, both in-battle and when I’m just expressing myself.  If that bothers you too much, let me know.  Still a little salty that you took my fight so seriously that you didn’t give me a chance to show off more though.”  She pouted, though it was as playful as most anything else she did.

“Ah, do you want to show me now?” Lysette asked.

“Nah.  At this point, it’s just going to feel dry and hollow.  Kinda like that structured…  Ugh, even just thinking the phrase again makes me wanna punch something fierce.  I do appreciate your asking.”

“Maybe you can try it against Serrena sometime,” Mirae said.  “I bet you would enjoy butting heads with her.”

“Oh, is that another demigoddess you two know?  I don’t really keep up with all that stuff.”

“Do you know Solanna Raesh?” Lysette asked.

“Solanna?  I mean, I think I met her once when I was like… ten.  She was nice, wish I had had some time to get to know her better— she was a lot of fun!  Though I’m not sure how you know her; I thought she was dead.”

“Well, Serrena is Solanna’s great-granddaughter,” Lysette said.  “And unless something has happened since yesterday, they’re both still alive.”

Aurella’s eyes lit up with sparkles— sparkles which burst out of said eyes and into the air around her.  “Really?  Solanna is alive?  And you’ve met her?  Can I see her too?  Please, please, please?”

“I don’t see why not.  As far as I know, she’s back in the palace at Domark, having lots of heated discussions with Saffron about…  I don’t want to know.”

“Saffron?  White hair and an old lady with a stick jammed so high up her bum you can see it in the back of her mouth?  Ugh, no thank you.  I don’t wanna see that lady ever again.”  Aurella disappeared in a puff of smoke and re-emerged in her child version, at which point she stuck her tongue out for emphasis.

“Anyway,” Mirae said.  “You’ve told us about yourself and your parents, but can you tell us some more about this alleged ‘menacing demon lord’ that you were told about?”

“Oh, so, a couple of months ago, I’m off talking with my mom one day and she mentions how she heard from her friend Thosse that there was a demon lord who had taken over a portion of southern Terea and using it as a base of operation to spread her dark influence over the entirety of Aimarion.  So I asked her why she was telling me all this and she told me that it was my responsibility to take care of the matter for her, to prove I was responsible or something.  I wasn’t paying attention.”

“I’m guessing eventually she managed to cajole you into coming out here and trying to stop us?”

“I mean…  Well, yes.  She threatened to take away her blessing and make me travel the long way to get here if I didn’t, and I quote, ‘get your ass down to Terea right this instant.’  That was yesterday, and I really, really didn’t want to have to ride the boat, so, uh, here I am.”

“I am confused,” Mirae said.  “You said you and Thosse were on bad terms with one another, but she’s also your mother’s friend?”

“Well, yeah.  Are you on great terms with all your mother’s friends?”

“No,” Mirae said.

“My mother was killed by Asterion’s inquisitors six months ago,” Lysette said.  “As were all of her friends.”

“Oh…  Yeah, I can see how you would become the demon lord if something like that happened.  Sorry, demon lady.  Force of habit and all.”

“It’s fine.  Do you know something about how I became a demon then?”

“I mean, I don’t know much myself, but basically when a deity awakens to their Domain, whatever desire they hold most strongly becomes embodied within their Spark.  And if you desired to kill Asterion, then I guess you’d gain the power to do so?  I mean, like I said, it’s not like Luminia told me anything demons or even what they were other than not to get killed.  She just was like ‘go kill the demon lord, bye Aura, love you, gotta go!’”

“I can see how that’s frustrating,” Mirae said.

Lysette nodded.  “So, Aurella, or do you prefer Aura?”

“Aurella, please.  Not that I mind a cuter nickname, but I guess I have to keep up appearances around other demigods.  Plus, that’s what my parents call me and I’m not happy with them so Aurella it is!”

“Alright.  Well, Aurella, what would you like to do now?  You’re welcome to stay here as long as you promise not to hurt any of the people living here.”

“I said before, I wanna go see Solanna!”

“I don’t know if that’s going to happen immediately, but I’ll talk with Saffron and Solanna and see if we can’t both take a day trip up to Domark in the next couple days and also get some lemon custard while we’re there.”

“And I can stay here with everyone tonight?”

“Sure can!”

“Then let’s go!”

Well Aurella is fun ! Interesting too, because... well... I just wonder what the Demigoddess of Whimsy will do in the upcoming conflicts ? If it involves spending time with Solanna, it can only be good ! And probably cause Saffron problems. Tiny insights into the political landscape of the deities. I suppose it makes sense that Luminia would be opposed to Lysette, if her actions somehow supports Zarielle's plans ? Other than that and knowing one more enemy deity (assuming Luminia is an actual enemy, and not someone who wants to protect Aimarion from a demon), still not much to go by, though. Geh, Lysette, can't you can the deity of "Sharing Information" on your side ? What, this isn't a real Domain ? Bummer, guess I'll have to wait for future chapters then.

Bielna

I'm allowed to have some of these info dumping chapters, especially at the start of a volume when we're finally getting glimpses into the Celestial realm! And yes, more will be revealed in due time.

Ria Corvidiva

A bit of an "infodump" chapter. But it raises a couple of interesting questions. Like what do the mentioned goddesses know? and what is their plan? Why are they actually opposing Lysette? And why are they underestimating her, if that is indeed what they are doing? And why are they not opposing Asterion, or are they? Both Light and Ocean are related to Moon, so maybe they are accomplices but maybe they are being manipulated. Basically, despite the infodump we know absolutely nothing. But now you're just gonna reply "Find out next time..." :D
