THE BOYS (04x06) *REACTION* "DIRTY BUSINESS"

Firecracker has made sure that this 4th of July is the most memorable by milking Homelander's weakness for what it's worth. Mother's Milk (The Person...) is having a moment-- and so is Hughie for that matter. There's a lot going on in this episode of The Boys, but one thing's for sure: the gworls are mothering!

Homelander didnโ€™t sense Hughie because of Web guys suite, the man smells very strongly/bad. They explained it in the episode. Tek Knight only knew it was him, because of his powers.

I think this episode had a lot of good, but I feel like it was at odds with it's own morals. Hughie breaking down at the end is a very real moment, and good for them for giving that to him, but if the show is taking it that seriously in that moment (which they should), why have so much of the things that he went through to get him to that place shown in a light that was obviously supposed to be taken as humorous? I like Ashley as a character, but she's inherently a comedic figure on the show, so her inclusion was fully played for comedy, and it just seems like them going against what they seem to feel at the end. The Boys is generally great at including some pretty fucked up stuff for shock/comedic value that doesn't exactly move the plot forward, but this seemed like a major detour that just really turned me off of this episode, and it's very rare for me to feel negative about an episode of The Boys. While watching this time with you two I had a thought during the opening scene with Hughie's mother and the heckler yelling at Starlight. I feel like it's possible that both of those storylines are thematically linked. Starlight terminated her pregnancy because she wasn't ready to have a child yet, as should always be a persons right. Hughie's mother I feel is a representation of what can happen when a person who isn't ready to have a child has to have one, and the damage that can cause. I don't know if it's intentional by the writers, but it's something I took from it this time.

I feel like theyโ€™re playing fast and loose with their own rules. There have been a couple of situations where Homelander wouldโ€™ve heard or sensed Hughie. Honestly this whole season feels off, like maybe itโ€™s too on the nose? Everything just feels obvious and convenient. Kinda bummed because itโ€™s my favorite show.
