Poll: Thoughts on save-breaking updates
Added 2019-11-27 04:41:19 +0000 UTCAs stated in the non-poll post, I've had a few things that I've been working with on the side that could provide quality of life improvements.
The TL;DR version is: what kind of improvement would be worth a save-breaking update?
Namely there's two things in particular that I've found. I've found a good way to implement an on-map clock that keeps track of day of week/month, and a very very nice fast travel map system (I would, of course, have to commission a map). Some kind of indicator of time of day beyond the outside tinting has long been requested.
For an example of what I'm looking at see the videos here:
https://atelierrgss.wordpress.com/rmv-timesystem-hud/ (This is for the time system ignore the other HUD examples, and I've already done the work to make it not real time, which is simple enough, but it'll require reworking a lot of events a tiny bit).
https://atelierrgss.wordpress.com/rmv-fast-travel/ For fast travel. Give you an idea of how I'd implement it, the Afterlife would be floating districts connected by winding train tracks in any artwork I comission, semi-similar to the floating islands in the video, except set against the same backdrop as you see in the boundary abyss. That or a starfield. Whichever ends up looking better. I'll get the background for it to be transparent.
There are also a few other things (weather effects, screen effects, etc.) that I've looked at that also break saves so I haven't implemented them. On top of that the event I use to fix saves from previous versions has been getting longer and there are a few things that I can't really retroactively fix that have been fixed (like I made multiple mistakes keeping track of Sybil's choice event line over time and nobodies getting a satisfaction refund from that seki/kita event branch satisfaction destroyer).
Anyway, I thought it'd be good to see how you all feel about game breaking updates.
