You do have great trope senses, but to be fair it is a show from Taiwan. So the chances of a step brother trope did increase exponentially. LOL!

About their ages, the younger cast is quite a bit older than their characters at this stage because the story (based on a novel) has a considerable time jump at one point. In fact, the story is taking place in 2012 and being narrated in present day :)
