adding on - for the past 2 episodes where Maya was inserted, i feel like the camera and screen direction feels quite different from the other episodes. This could be a thing cos the episodes can literally have different directors if there is more than 1 (i think there are). From the credits it does seem that different episodes has different directors in charge

2024-09-06 08:30:20 +0000 UTCsame thoughts as Megs - i thought Maya was a hateful literary device to show who Kohei was before, and that now Kohei sheds the same light that Taichi shone onto him, reflecting it now onto Maya. Kohei sees his old self in her, and that's why he wanted to be a support to this negative self-hating world-hating girl. i like that the show gave us her backstory, yet didnt try to fully redeem her cos she is still a piece of work. Maya's backstory shows a glimpse of exactly what Taichi was upset about at the company, where the norm is to categorise the extremes and individuals like Maya and Kohei end up not fitting into either sides - even though it isnt their fault that they are hearing-impaired. the projecting experience portion is spot on - and Maya projected onto Kouhei what Maya herself was too afraid to admit or express - which Taichi exposed without a shred of evil malice. That's why it was so hard yet so freeing for her to have received that from Taichi - someone who tries their best to understand you and actually does. Just like what Kohei mentioned, Taichi helped Kohei move from a place from wishing that there was someone out there who would bother to understand, to actually having the faith and hope in people again that there are indeed those who understand. execution wise, i would have scripted Maya to have more of a little sister trait to Kohei, so that the audience could feel the 'kinship' a little better. But Maya's actress is pretty good though, that one shot with the crying scene and lines was not easy to pull off. I love the memory lane scene's long shot execution! not just a montage but a literal walk through Kohei's facial expressions of the time spent with Taichi - it tells us that he is ready to let go of Taichi. I do resonate that Taichi and Kohei need some time apart - for Taichi to discover himself with new goals + for Kohei to now do life without Taichi, but positively and not negatively. The sunlight from Taichi still remains with him. Romantically, Taichi also needs some time away from Kohei to figure himself and his feelings out. Their unequal footing in feelings will not work out if they got together now, i feel. BUT YOU COULD STILL STAY IN CONTACT WITH YOUR PHONES, why not i can never understand but i guess they will take the 'time away from each other' dramatically. Would like to echo back to ep10 where Grandpa talked about not considering or focusing on loneliness in your decision-making and future. Choose objectively the path that makes your road bright. This also applies to romantic relationships. one lonely person plus another lonely person = two lonely persons. Only when both of them learn to live, thrive and grow independently, with light under their paths - would they come together healthily based on desire, as opposed to a 'need' coming purely from loneliness. A lonely person will keep draining from their partners in a bid to temporarily forget about that loneliness - a contented, emotionally secure individual will continue giving love to their partner because it is their desire to be happy with that person.

2024-09-06 08:23:41 +0000 UTCKent I agree with everything you and Nolan said💯. I’m am so tired of Maya and her stinking attitude towards Taichi 🙄. Like I do understand that she didn’t had a great experience interacting with people. But I also do think she is just a negative person, she thinks everyone who isn’t like her is terrible and that’s is really a bad way of thinking. I also wish Taichi will figure out already that’s he has romantic feelings for Kohei. I really love Kohei he is so understanding and not judgmental towards Taichi. I also love Taichi too, because he is really a good person. He doesn’t mind standing up for what is right and also for the people he cares about ❤️🥹. That whole stairs scene and the classroom scene and the cutting onion scene made me tear up 😭. I really do appreciate that this series did share a light on people who experience hearing loss and show how they navigate through it. I do thinks this series is amazing but it’s does has it flaws. But I can’t wait to see the finale next week ❤️

2024-09-04 23:46:16 +0000 UTCThis is just me probably LOL but I like Maya as a concept because it's an interesting juxtaposition to Kohei about how they view their conditions in such different ways. To me, it offers another outlook into the aspects of how people view the world based on how they are treated and how that affects their perceptions of others too. I get the way she is put in affects how the story can feel in its pacing in terms of the romance because I feel it at times too for sure, but I do appreciate how the mangaka attempts to view how the condition affects others differently and how they approach it based on their circumstances. I like over the course you can see how much Kohei has accepted his condition because of taichi. Showing him how his condition is nothing to be ashamed of but another part of himself he can embrace. While for Maya she never really had that so the way she is deeply ashamed of it and how she keeps trying to project her experience onto Kohei as well is sad...and to me an interesting study of a character even if the execution of including her could have been better. I still think the series overall is amazing regardless.

I think you laid out the issues with the sequencing and character development nicely. Love the acting, the directing, editing, photography, etc. but the writers room needed to take another pass at some of these episodes.
