Obelix and Fulliautomatix, from Asterix

Today's art stars Obelix and Fulliautomatix, characters from the French comic book Asterix, created by Albert Uderzo and René Goscinny in 1959, based on the struggle of the Gallic people against the Roman Empire.

Asterix, the hero of the story, resides with his friends in a small Gallic village situated on a peninsula in Armorica, north of ancient Gaul. To resist Roman rule, the villagers rely on a magical potion that gives them superhuman strength, prepared by the druid Panoramix. The potion's power is temporary. The exception is Obelix, who accidentally fell into a cauldron filled with the potion as a baby, and from there permanently acquired super strength.

In this illustration, the Welsh giant has a good time with Fulliautomatix, the village blacksmith, who used the magic potion to withstand all the power of Obelix.

Fun fact: Asterix had four live-action movies and in all of them Obelix was played in the movies by actor Gerard Depardieu.
