I have heard that season 1 was inspired by (aside from the film version of Fargo) No Country for Old Men, and season 2 was inspired in part by Miller’s Crossing (a Coen Bros gangster film). I’ve seen it once and you can definitely see the influence at moments. Noah Hawley has done a fantastic job of encapsulating the cinematic universe of the Coen Bros, while still inserting his own vision.
