It ties into a larger theme that's been present in the show from the beginning: that it is possible to take something painful or traumatic and turn it into something that makes you stronger. You're right that Al's voice actress - Maxey Whitehead - is fantastic. Her performance often gets me teary.

2018-06-10 22:05:57 +0000 UTCHohenheim clearly noticed that Edward was listening at the door while he was talking to Pinako (Winry's Grandma). Which is exactly why he told her about their mother. He wanted Ed to know. And he knew Edward would want to find out the truth.

2018-06-10 21:50:54 +0000 UTCWho would've thought that Hohenheim, despite being a blunt asshole (lol), would be the one to push Ed to face what happened that day, and subsequently help soothe over the wounds of what they did. Ed, Al and Izumi feeling relieved at not killing their loved ones a second time was just wonderful! They're still paying the price of what happened, but that revelation must've been freeing.
