You talked about the candidates being brought to the island after being touched, but remember that Sayid and Hugo were both touched after their first "trip" to the island.

I sometimes think that overthinking what's going on after every episode is more of a detriment to figuring out what's actually going on. Because you can set yourself into incorrect theories easier than if you just went from one episode to the next. And then it's harder to break away from those theories because you've been going over them again and again. It makes it really interesting waiting to see what Jimmy is going to come up with by the time this is over. If he can break away from what he's wrong about and if he can stick with what he's right about through all the confusion. That's the cool thing about Lost though. You can be wrong at the end and not even realize it on your first watch. The show is pretty much whatever you make of it.

Undisputed

Remember that Eko was being haunted by his brother in a few episodes, in dreams. The Monster showed a strong interest in him, confronting Eko the first time and "reading" or flashing his memories. When Locke first saw the Monster, he said he saw a very bright light. Juliet and Kate, when hunted down by the Monster, also encountered flashes of light as the Monster "read" their memories or souls or whatever. And when the Monster saw that Eko was too strong willed, too independent, perhaps it realized it could not manipulate Eko. The Monster's countenance changes totally when Eko defies his "brother" and owns his sins. Charlie, Boone, Shannon, Ana Lucia, Libby, Michael, Walt they all served some purpose, perhaps, maybe, they got to the Island for a reason, even if not Candidates.

I met my ex the day this episode was aired, which is why I always remembered our annivarsery, I just looked this episode up and checked its air date lol

I also believe that the fact of Locke being a candidate is what stops MiB of turning into somebody else now on... Like, considering Ilana knew about It, It would be an usuful trick Jacob, thinking ahead, pulled out on Smokey...

I’m pretty sure people like Charlie Boone ect were also chosen they just happened to die so their name was crossed out ! Hope that helps
