This is why Damon Lindelof said the S2 premiere, "Man of Science, Man of Faith," referred to Jack and not both Jack and Locke, as most people assumed (although I think that interpretation is also reasonable). Jack is not John Locke, a man whose desperate blind faith ultimately does him in. Jack becomes more open to faith as the series progresses, but still maintains rationality and reason, and his little experiment here is but one example.

Love your insight on the mental/emotional/psychological state of the cast before the island. I think s1 showed very well how Jin/Sun were broken, as well as Locke (though his backstory would continue to reveal itself to be even more and more effed up throughout the series). I loved MIB's speech to Ben about how broken they all were, and how Locke knew it and that's why he wanted to stay in the island. He recognized in the island a second chance, a purpose, a destiny. So then his following statement about being the opposite of Locke, and wanting to leave the island more than anything else, was to me such a great moment. It made me so curious about MIB. Why does he want to leave? Why can't he? Why is it wrong/bad that he wants to leave? Etc etc. Can't wait to see your thoughts on these things in the coming eps :)

Yeah, remembering about the sickness early on, being "claimed" most likely refers to this. How? Remember the convenient time travel episode with Jin and Rousseau. Her whole team gets infected according to her, and we see her partner try to kill her and her baby. Montang gets his arm torn off, dragged into the tunnels, and then asks for help? He most likely died, and who knows what happened to the rest of the team down there.

Hmm, yes he was looking at Claire strange! He sensed something was off to with Sayid while everyone thought he was dead for good! Jimmy, there is clearly something going on, on this island that signifies life and death don't you think? Dead people walking, ghosts and people not aging...

Good observation, that Claire probably did die when the mercenaries blew up her house with a rocket launcher. She did say "Charlie?" when Sawyer got her out of the debris. Also, go back and see that before Christian appears, Miles is looking at her with curious interest when Sawyer tell him to keep away. Miles was sensing something off.

Definitely. Season 6 is underrated and except for this episode and maybe episode 10 being pretty meh, I'm very much looking forward to seeing his reaction

Come on we still got Ben, Sawyer, Sayid, Hurley, Jack and Richard kicking about. Desmond is still alive somewhere... and while Locke is dead God damn if it ain't interesting watching Flocke operate in any scene he is in.

Looking back to "Walkabout" when Locke is talking on the phone with "Helen" and he wants to take her to Australia, it's shocking that one forgets how mentally broken he was just before the Island, where he becomes a Zen-like warrior, what he always wanted. He did a lot and suffered a lot on the Island. Most of the characters were murderers. The rest were really fucked up in the head. On the Island they found what they were looking for, in one way or another. They found a purpose or came to terms with themselves, most notably Mr. Eko, who told off the Smoke Monster and owned his sins without remorse, then went out like a man.

All the way back in the old days, Rousseau was quizzing Sayid about a sickness and Claire went on an expedition with Rousseau to find a cure for the sickness... and now these 2 characters have it.

Ethan: "I just dont wanna stick you with needles if I dont have to." Ethan redeeming himself from what he did in season 1? Claire: Theres not much of a limit on it, but its something. Kate: You dont have to do this. Claire: You didnt have to do what you did either. Kate: I think you should keep him. This has got nothing to with credit cards. Claire is happy that Kate raised Aaron and Kate's saying you're the one that needed to raise him?
