Lost REACTION - 5x17 - Part 1

Comments

A little late to the party on these reactions, but notice how Jacob physically touched all of the characters in the past?

haha looks like we replied at the same time, but yes, I don't want to be prone to allowing others to change my opinion lol I'm sure it has valid points, but all these years later after the show has ended, I just enjoy it for what it gave me, endless hours of entertainment :)

I watched the first 15 minutes of that video and...yeah. Different strokes for different folks as they say. His thoughts come from his own personality of character motivation and what kind of choices they should be making and why. In the end it's a TV show and writers paved the way for what they say and do, so if people can't see past that aspect of it just being a show produced by a group of people, no one will ever understand. Either way, if a guy wants to make 8 videos each an hour long explaining why he didn't like Lost, that's an interesting use of one's time but more power to him lol. Looking forward to Jimmy's reactions to season 6!

Yeah, I agree about it being still an awesome show with great characters. I'd say it's still my favorite show with its flaws. If you watch his full review you may think a lot less of the show though. At least that's what happened to me, so watch at your own risk haha.

Shit. An entire hour and a half? I'll have to dedicate some time in increments but from what the guy above stated, it's just one man's opinion and analysis on the show. Over the year's I've come to accept all the flaws that come with the show. I know it's not perfect. Far from it obviously. It's had it's fair share of shock value and twists that never amounted to much but OVERALL it was still a fantastic story that gave us some of the greatest characters ever written for TV. I just can't grasp how Jack not caring about innocent people dying and Juliet changing her mind as being bad writing. Both of their motivations make sense and they even explain why they do so. Regardless, The show was a crazy ride during the last 3 seasons but upon several rewatches it doesn't seem that messy to me. In fact the bigger picture becomes clearer with each rewatch. Making up my own statistic I can confidently say that at least 90% of Lost makes sense and most everything is explained whether it be spoon fed to you through writing or left ambiguous for you to decide. I still love the show after all these years, but if one thing is certain this show stood out amongst the rest at having the balls to not answer everything as 2+2=4.

Jimmy WILL break, sooner or later, eventually. Jimmy SHALL be broken. At least once when the show is over. Let's get a pool going.

And Daniel thought the bomb would negate the energy, not destroy the island. If detonating Jughead destroys the energy for good, a new future (with the past as is) is created where the plane doesn't crash and everyone lives on. Again, the past remains as it is, 'cause without it this new timeline doesn't exist. Anyone see the Steins;Gate anime? It would be a timeline loophole, that one word again. But what if the Jughead did destroy the Island? Jack did not think so, he was Jack-Locke. He had faith in future Eloise, in dead Locke and in the Island, they would not send him back to kill everyone, so he thought. Jack believed he was sent to save everyone.

Yeah everyone is entitled to their opinion. I used to really love the show, I still do, but I have a hard time respecting it nearly as much as I used to. that guy I linked has like 8 parts of the review and he does a huge review of the whole show. After watching all 8 parts he just uncovered so much stuff that I hadn't realized before. Stuff that just showed how much the writers were truly making it up as they went, and how many (imo) big flaws came with doing that.

He doesn't show it, it is just and analysis. An opinion, as he puts it 30 minutes in. In fact, I found the analysis lacking itself, there are several things not taken into account as he goes on, and I certainly do not agree with the character analysis of several characters. That is not to say there are no technical problems with Lost, there were a few things, in execution mainly, but the story is far from "bad" or "horrendous," or messy. Well, a little messy. The fans, or "die-hards" or whatever do not excuse the show at any cost. They find what is there in the story for interpretation. Ambiguity is not creative laziness. But I do think there can be too much ambiguity sometimes. I live for literary analysis from my old AP English classes, but of course Lost is not literature, it's pop culture, like Ben mocks Juliet for reading Stephen King. Way way way off thinking it's bad writing, but that is just an opinion too.

Hey, I'd suggest watching this review of Season 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-UES_bs08s it might make you think differently, basically this guy shows what a mess the show became in the final 2 seasons.

People change their mind and make hard decisions all the time. Sacrifice is common when trying to right your wrongs. Not everything is "BAD WRITING!!!!" just because you don't agree with those decisions

Dean Cyphers

Jack doesn’t view it as killing innocent people - he views it as resetting things.

Mike

Jimmy was trying so hard not to cry during the Juliet scene.

John Victor Oak

Ugh I hated this. Juliet changing her mind. Jack okay with killing all the innocent people on the island. Just bad writing IMO.

Yeah, Jimmy will find no joy in this episode with what happens to Juliet and John.

debbie l.

Same, Jimmy. Same.

G G

If this didn't break him, I don't think anything will. God damnit. It's not over yet I suppose.

5x17 today and the season 6 opening two-parter later this week? This is working out nicely.
