It really shows how everything connects together from the early seasons to the end! It would be great to see you react to it!

Your statement regarding "I don't know what it is; I just wanted to talk about the show," is not unique to you! :) "Special" is such a cliche and ambiguous word, not only in life but also in this show itself... and yet it is perhaps the perfect word to describe the show and the impact it can have on some people. I think Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse created and ran a show very well. However, they made something which in some respects and for some people, they just can't get over. It's rather ironic, given the major theme of "letting go" which is woven throughout the show. This is the only show I've watched multiple times, beginning to end, on my own, and will ALWAYS be happy to watch through again along side someone watching for the first time. It's not perfect. Not all of the questions are answered, or are answered flawlessly. Nonetheless the final product is brilliant and has been well worth my hundreds of hours. I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did Jimmy!

Jacob's goal WAS to die. He knew Ben would do it, and yet he hoped that the better part of Ben's nature would win out, DESPITE everything else, which it did in the afterlife/purgatory reality. Jacob was an asshole on purpose because he was as manipulative as the man in black. As great a character as Ben is, and it says a lot about his greatness, he was always manipulated by those two demigods/demons.

There was also a special episode called “Aloha to Lost” right after the finale aired. It was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and some of the cast including Matthew Fox, Michael Emerson and Terry O’quinn were there. There are some pretty funny moments and also the never-before-seen alternate endings (!) to the show, too. It would be great to see your reaction to it.

I always thought Bens mother was the MIB. To me that was the beginning of MIBs long con on Ben, he saw Ben as one of his potential loopholes to killing Jacob. When you go back and watch it poor Ben has been manipulated and influenced by him for a very long time. What i love about Ben is he is a man just wanting acceptance, from his father, from his people, from Jacob. But every step of the way he isnt enough no matter how hard he tries. Then in the end after accepting his failures and realising the error of his ways, Hurley accepts him and as is said outside the church, it was a successful partnership and Ben did a great job as 'Number 2'

There is a theory smoke monster has existed ever since the Egyptians first came to the island thousands of years ago. He was a part of an experiment they did, but they stopped it when they realized it was making their women die during pregnancies. You might have noticed, but everyone who comes to the island gets so drunk on its powers they they want to exploit them (Egyptians with smokey, American Navi with the hydrogen bomb in the 50s, dharma in the 70s with all their weird experiments, even Widmore with that electromagnetic room where Desmond was put).

(Praying my comment doesn't disappear like every other comment I write does...) (1) Re: Ben. Why did I watch this with the biggest, fondest "mom smile"??? Was that smile for Ben and this video, or for Jimmy's love for Ben as he watched this video? Haha. It's a little surreal watching you to react to this lol. Because you're one of us now! You know it all and nothing is a spoiler anymore and now you can go back and rewatch all the great moments! (2) Re: MIB. My interpretation is along the lines of your second thought: the smoke monster is the corruption of the MIB's soul. That corruption is the "fate worse than death", and part of that ties into the whole "he took my body, my humanity" thing. When MIB became the smoke monster, he no longer had a physical body. (As for how he was corrupted, I see it as a biblical-like "punishment of man", punishment for touching something he wasn't suppose to, the Light? Of course, it was against his will that he even went near the Light source, but I don't suppose intent, or lack thereof, mattered to The Island/Light?...) Jimmy, since you're like me and really feel for the MIB, can you react to an an MIB video?? I'll post a few! And well even if you don't react to one, I hope you watch them for your enjoyment at least :). (As an aside, I enjoy Jacob's character a lot more when I accept that he was a regular dude who fucked up then had many 100s of years to become present!Jacob. Regarding what the smoke monster is, one possible theory I've read (that is purely speculation of course—no way of knowing since the show is over) is that having your soul transformed into a smoke monster is simply the natural consequence for anybody directly exposed to the energy in that chamber. Desmond's special immunity prevented that from happening to him, but according to this theory, that would mean that by exposing himself, Jack was actually transformed into a new smoke monster for the island. His body appearing in the forest outside of the cave is consistent with what happened to MIB's body afterwards, except MIB's body was already dead, and we didn't see any smoke billowing out of the cave straight away this time. So it maybe doesn't hold up, but I think it's a cool idea anyway.

In terms of your question: I think its a quasi-biblical archetype story. The sin of murdering his own brother made the smoke monster(evil manifest) be born. I think the mother was mother earth, or "nature" or something of the like. When Desmond goes down there, he sees the bones of the dark brother next to that water pool. We know that the island is special in some way.(garden of eden type special) This sort of manifestation isn't out of the picture entirely. Or maybe I am ascribing meaning where there isnt any. Im probably talking out of my ass.
